Opening a Shift and Float Management

The Importance of Shift Tracking

A cashier cannot simply walk up to a register and start selling. Every transaction must be linked to a specific human and a specific timeframe to ensure financial accountability. This is managed through the concept of "Shifts."

Tutorial: Opening a Shift

  1. Open the Oishia POS module (either the web URL or the tablet app).
  2. The staff member logs in using their secure PIN code.
  3. The system will detect that no shift is active and prompt them to Open a Shift.
  4. The cashier must physically count the money in the drawer and enter the Opening Float (e.g., $200.00 in small bills and coins).
  5. They click Start Shift. The POS is now active and ready to process sales.

Security Warning

Never allow two cashiers to process sales under the same active shift. If Cashier A needs to take a lunch break, they must lock the register, and Cashier B must log in with their own PIN to take over.
