Closing the Register (Z-Report)

End of Day Reconciliation

At the end of a cashier's shift, they must prove that the physical money in their drawer matches the sales they processed in the software. This is known as the Z-Report (or End-of-Day Close).

Tutorial: Performing a Z-Report

  1. In the POS header, click the $ (Close Register) icon.
  2. The system initiates a "Blind Count." This means the system will not tell the cashier how much money should be in the drawer.
  3. The cashier removes the drawer and physically counts the cash. They input the total counted amount into the system.
  4. They click Submit Close.
  5. The system now compares the counted amount against the expected amount. If the system expected $1,000 but the cashier only counted $990, the system flags a $10 Cash Shortage variance.

Automated Accounting

When a shift is closed, Oishia automatically posts the final consolidated journal entries to your General Ledger, including automatically writing off any cash shortages to an expense account.
